Winter Rye Grain

Winter Rye Grain is known to be used as a Food Plot or as a Cover Crop.

Food Plot: Winter Rye Grain is extremely popular when it comes to food plots due to it's ability to withstand some extremely cold temperatures. Winter Rye Grain has the ability to grow when temps are below freezing and will stay green all winter long. This seed also germinates very easily and grows extremely fast. (We've had it grow in the back of our truck before)

Cover Crop: Winter rye is commonly used as a cover crop due to its fast growth, cold tolerance, deep root system that helps prevent soil erosion, and its ability to scavenge excess nutrients from the soil. These qualities make it an excellent choice for enhancing soil health during the winter months.

  • Winter Hardiness: Tolerates extremely cold temps, will grow as soon as the snow melts in the spring
  • Ground Cover: With it's rapid growth rye will protect your soil from wind and water erosion. This also shades out the weeds
  • Nutrient Scavenging: It absorbs excess nutrients left in the soil after harvest, preventing nutrient runoff and leaching
  • Attractive: Deer are extremely attracted to Winter Rye Grain especially later in the year due to it's ability to stay green longer than most other plants
  • Increases Organic Matter: When tilled back into the soil, rye adds organic matter, improving soil structure and fertility
